Two Versions of Paley's Argument Argument from Analogy’ : 1. Watches have many complex and interrelated parts. 2. Watches have these complex and interrelated parts because they were designed to perform a purpose. 3. Living creatures have many complex and interrelated parts. 4. Therefore, living creatures are like watches in that they were probably designed to perform a purpose. Inference to Best Explanation’: 1. Things in nature are often well-adapted to accomplish various tasks. 2. Where things are well- adapted to accomplish various tasks, it is overwhelmingly likely that they were designed to accomplish those tasks. 3. It is overwhelmingly likely that there exists a designer of nature (God).
