Module 4 Assignment QN1.What is the latest status on the FireWire standard? Is it going to succumb to the USB standard? Explain your response. Answer: Firewire is the technology concept standard developed by apple to transfer data through serial bus. The goal of the project was to create a relatively inexpensive, high-speed connection that was easy to use, but Apple did not originally intend for the technology to be used as a connection for external devices. FireWire was used by Apple and by other companies, such as Sony, for camcorder and audio devices to connect to the external device for data transferring. The reason for this popularity was the speed the original FireWire 400 standard could achieve a data transfer rate of up to 400 Mbit/s. This left USB behind the race as the first version of that standard could only data transfer rate max 12 Mbit/s. The massive gap in capability made FireWire more popular choice for anyone with the need to move big files. DEATH OF FIRE WIRE STANDARD: Despite the best efforts of its backers, FireWire never attained more than a 33 percent share of the PC market. In contrast, virtually every PC sold over the past several years contains multiple USB 2.0 ports. USB 2.0's popularity with PC makers has resulted in just about every popular peripheral known to humankind being made available with a USB 2.0 interface, leaving FireWire
