INTRODUCTION Bronchiectasis is chronic dilatation of bronchi with impaired drainage of bronchial secretion leading to persistent infection of the affected segment or lobes.

Pathology Initial inflammation of bronchi. Destruction of cartilage and change in the normal cell to the altered shape of bronchial wall with absence of cilia. Mucous gland content increases in the bronchial wall but ciliary function decreases. Marked changes in bronchial arterial circulation within the wall of bronchi.

Result in haemoptysis. It is developed commonly in the right middle and lower lobe and left lingular lobe.
