Andrew Byers In an egalitarian society there is no centralized government, all have the same amount of access to the same exact resources. Everyone must do the same amount of work to survive; there aren’t really wants just needs. Egalitarian societies are unorganized, as an average American would see. Egalitarian societies would seem savage and uncivilized. Stratified societies are divide in such a way that some may work while others laze about. The resources are divided in such a way that you can be born with more resources than other. Stratification tends to have poverty and wealth, whereas egalitarian is constant. It lacks the surplus necessary for wealth or poverty. It is this surplus that defines the divide between these two types. If we were to take a Band and give them all of the resources that a state would have, what do you think would occur? Stratification would occur. Stratification is mans way of dividing up surplus, it is a greed that becomes apparent once there is more than enough. If we were to examine each level of the
