As per the article, “3 to 20 percent of inpatients experience a fall during their hospital stay, with the possibility for injury, additional medical intervention, and an increased length of stay.” The authors communicate, that although measures have previously been taken to prevent the falls in high-risk patients, numbers still show that these incidents are still frequently occurring and other measures are needed. As an effort for change, authors expressed use of a practice change study which consisted of a quasi-experimental study design, to estimate the causal impact of falls in high-risk patients providing the intervention of a centralized video monitoring (CVM) system, using the sample population without random assignment.
