1 Christopher Fung Lowenstein Junior English 30 November 2016 Epigram Ch 5 CEIJ Paragraph Everyone has a drive to do something in their life, some people are driven to use their human capabilities to conquer nature’s harsh conditions. There have been multiple cases of people disappearing after going into dangerous areas, who try to challenge themselves to live an isolated life. In the nonfiction, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, the main character, Chris McCandless writes in a graffito, “All Hail the Dominant Primordial Beast! And Captain Ahab Too!”(38). McCandless is saying that he is striving to let the primordial beast take over inside of him, while also becoming like Captain Ahab, as he lives in nature. Before McCandless enters the wilderness of Alaska, he tells his driver, “I’ll be fine with what I’ve got”(6). McCandless is saying that he doesn’t need any extra help and can survive on his own. This is significant because he also wants to prove that, if his ancestors survived without the help of new technology,
