TUSKEGEE SYPHILIS STUDY: they wanted to find out the cause of syphilis. Gathered poor black men for the research. They knew what could cure them but instead withheld the medication and watched them die. (they hadn’t given any consent and weren’t aware of what was going to happen to them. They were lied to. Abuse of power, racist) 2. NAZI MEDICAL EXPERIMENTS: conducted medical experiments on prisoners. Wanted to understand the spotted fever virus. They infected these prisoners with the virus. Some were put in cold water for 3 hours or outside naked in the winter to see how hypothermia would affect the body. TOUGH GUISE DOCUMENTARY: systematically examines the relationship between pop-cultural imagery and the social construction of masculine identities in the U.S. at the dawn of the 21st century -Tough Guise is documentary that discusses the links between violence in the media and society’s idea of masculinity -Jackson Katz, who describes himself as “one of America’s leading anti-sexist male activists,” talks about the idea of a “tough guise” that men put on as a mask to hide their deeper vulnerabilities and emotions BLAMING THE VICTIM: A perspective that holds individuals responsible for the negative conditions in which they live SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF SEXUALITY: sexuality is socially shaped and varies in practices among time. Sexual practices are learned (you are not born knowing what sexuality is you are taught it) sexuality is different among each culture.
