Identify Theme Worksheet Title of Novel Choice The title of the novel I chose was The Great Gatsby The comparison piece is The Roaring 20s a poem by Kenn Allan Theme Statement The theme statement of The Great Gatsby, at least what it seemed to me, had to do with what people did in that time. People in that time made choices solely on social status. They made sure they did what was wealthy and high class. Secondary Source with 3 Citations 1. In the poem that says “In a decade that roared with social amends” that fits perfect with The Great Gatsby. The class status would change everything, even your true love. 2. A line in the poem says “While crime was ignored by the money it spends”, it really shows how money controlled everything in life, even if a guilty man was rich, he would be able to get out without punishment. 3. The quote “As moral suppression and greed declared war”, shows that morals were not took in consideration when husbands and wives were having affairs. The greed part of it has to do with when Daisy ran over her husbands mistress. Primary Source with 3 Citations 1. The green light. It’s a symbol which shows how different they are, and also shows how far they are. Also, you learn in the first chapter, Gatsby is leaving towards the green light. He’s going to his hopes and dreams, who is Daisy. 2. In chapter 4, we get to see how needy Gatsby is and how much he wants Daisy. He later asks Nick to invite Daisy and himself over. When he finally meets Daisy, he quickly talks about how he went from rags to riches. 3. The wall street crash during 1929 foreshadows what happens in the end of the novel.
