Heba Attia ENG101 February 21,2017 Personal freedom is both a privilege and a curse. When people have too much freedom there is a lot of pressure on their own decision making and they often stray, but too little freedom can cause people to rebel or feel like their government is against them. As of present day America, there is a structured balance of personal freedom. There are no impossibly restrictive rules in place, but there are just enough laws to keep the people from irresponsible activity. Over the years, rules and laws have been put in place and adjusted several times to adjust to the circumstances. One of the most famous laws on personal freedom is the National Minimum Drinking Age of 1984.This law imposed an age restriction of twenty- one on all fifty states. Individuals under the age of 21 could not purchase, possess or drink alcohol under this law. Lawmakers reasoned that 21 was the age original English lawmakers saw as a legal adult, as well as scientifically the brain is fully developed by that age, so the law passed.While this law still applies present day, it was not always the case. Many people have disagreed being that at 18 one can vote and go to war, but cannot have a simple beer. One of those people was Theodore Roosevelt.
