A BOTCHED BOTOX2The topic of this case study is Botox and the effects of having it injected incorrectly. The patient, Jackie, attended a Botox party to remove her 11’s or glabellar skin lines. As a result, she witnessed that her eyelid went limp after a couple days. This is actually a side effect commonly found in Botox patients known as ptosis. Ptosis occurs when the injections are inserted poorly which paralyzes non targeted muscle groups. ACh also known as acetylcholine must be present in order for the patient’s eye to return to normal. ACh is a neurotransmitter which controls and contains muscle contraction. BoNT (botox) is an injectable aesthetic which finds it way into a cell by receptor-mediated endocytosis and functions as a neuroparalytic toxin within the cytosol of neurons. Endocytosis is a energy requirement process which brings molecules across selectively, permeable, biological membranes. Exocytosis is a mode of bulk transport which moves molecules across biological membranes from the cytoplasm which is how materials leave the cell.Keywords: ptosis, aesthetic, membranes
