Jada Cook Mary Richard History 201 11 December 2017 Letter to Lincoln 1. The main purpose of this letter written to Lincoln from the 55th Massachusetts Regiment is to attempt to gain favor of the President in hopes that he will reimburse the money that was kept away from these African Americans while they contributed in the Civil War. 2. The letter states that these African Americans fought in the civil war for “liberty, justice, and equality” and those three reasons are worth more to them than any gold. These people were fighting for equal pay because they enlisted under a promise made by Congress that they would receive similar pay to that of regular army men.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
