Pennell 4 " Man is a social animal and seeking for pleasure and company are considered to be basic needs of human beings" ( Raman, Joji Rajan, Geetha) . Humans are very social beings that need interactions because humans have this basic fundamental thing that makes them want to be with other people . When a person doesn’t get the level of interaction that they want, they feel the feeling of loneliness . "The dictionary meaning of loneliness is the state of being alone in solitary isolation and sadness resulting from being forsaken or abandoned" ( Raman, Joji Rajan, Geetha) . This definition really helps explain what loneliness is and how it comes about . Everyone feels loneliness in their life but one group in particular have been shown that loneliness is a problem for them . That group would be the elderly . Different countries deal with this problem differently . In America , many elderly are put into nursing homes and are not visited by their families very much and this causes them to be lonely. In other countries they don't really have nursing homes, they have different cultural norms and dealing with it in better ways. As a country we need to find a better way to treat our elderly . Before you start to try and solve a problem you need to have some background and why it is a problem in the first place . In Ami Rotach’s journal , “ Addressing Loneliness In Old Age” , they say there are a few different distinguishing characteristics of most experiences with loneliness .
