Timothy Walter Burton is an American film director, producer, writer, and animator that has a deliciously ghoulish and artfully warped sense of humor. Born August 25, 1958, in the city of Burbank, California, to Jean Burton and William "Bill" Burton (Wikipedia, n.d.). Tim attendedelementary, middle and high school in the city of Burbank. He was particularly not a good student because his focus was on painting, drawing and watching movies instead of his academics. As a preteen, Burton would make short films in his backyard using stop motion animation techniques. After graduating from high School, Burton attended The California Institute of the Arts to study character animation. After Burton graduated from The California Institute of Art, his first job was as an animator and an artist for Disney. While at Disney, Burton made his first short, six-minute black-and-white stop motion film, Vincent, in 1982. He then shot his first live-action production, Hansel and Gretel,for the Disney Channel. Burton's next live-action short film, Frankenweenie, was released in 1984. Shortly after the filming, he was fired from Disney because they couldn’t come to terms with his vision. He later went on to make full-length films with a creative and visually striking theme of fantasy and horror like; Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Batman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory andPlanet of the Apes. Burton married Lena Gieseke, a German-born artist in 1987 but they divorced after four years of marriage. He then dated Lisa Marie, an actress and model from 1992-2001. While filming Planet of the Apes, he started a romantic relationship with, English actress, Helena Bonham Carter who he fathered two children with. Burton and Bonham Carter amicably split in 2014, after being together for 13 years (Wikipedia, n.d). Despite the instability in his career, Burton proved himself to be one of the most popular directors of the late 20th century. The film Sweeny Todd, won National Board of Review for Best2
