Do you agree with the argument made by Nicholas Carr to support his position that IT no longer gives companies a competitive advantage? Why or why not? I disagree with Nicholas Carr’s overall message, however, I do not disagree with everything he states. Nicholas Carr believes that IT is becoming a commodity more than it is a necessity for companies to achieve a competitive advantage over one another. I agree with him on this aspect because unless businesses can financially support the use of IT and know exactly what they are doing with it, they will not have a competitive edge even with IT. I believe this is what Nicholas Carr is trying to preach in his speech without directly saying it. Arie de Geus, head of strategic planning for Royal Dutch Shell, thinks there is a way to sustain competitive advantage and that is: “The ability to learn faster than your competitors may be the only sustainable competitive advantage in the future (O’Brien & Marakas, 2013, p 56). This means that it boils and emphasizes more in the company’s intelligence or drive to learn how to integrate such systems and how to learn them quickly and efficiently rather than the IT itself.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
