I am doing my analysis of “Oedipus the King.” This is a narration, and it is about a man who became king after the previous king was murdered. In this tale, we learn a good deal about Oedipus which at first we did not know. This narration depicts how we take our lifetime journeys depending onour choices. We learn about Oedipus choices he made and where this choice landed him. Oedipus’ fate,his journey for self-identification and his determination for a change.Oedipus the King was introduced by the triumphs of Oedipus. Oedipus was the king of Thebes. And at this time Thebes was suffering from a curse. This cures left the land and women barren and the dying of a plague. Oedipus had heard the cries of the people while offering his prayers. He was worried as cattle and crops were being damaged. Women and infant mortality rate were increasing because of the widespread disease. The only way to end this curse was to find and banish the one who murdered the previous king.Oedipus's had learned through the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi; he would kill his father and marry his mother. Laios who was the previous king of Thebes also received the same Oracle from Apollo. Theyboth tried to stop their destiny and change the future. Both of these men wanted to try to escape a foretold future of what their lives would be. They tried to make their own path. In doing so, Laios still lose his life and Oedipus never knew who he truly was. There are a few times in this narration were we can see the foreshadowing of who Oedipus really was.However, the truth behind his birth destroys him. In the scene where the Old Man is brought before Oedipus for questioning, the truth is uncovered. Long ago when Oedipus was only a child, he was sent away from his home to the Old Man because of a prophecy that Oedipus would one day kill his father and marry his mother. During the questioning, the Old Man is unaware that Oedipus is the baby boy who was sent him and when the Old Man says he received the boy from Laius, it is now
