 Made of proteins and a single molecule of DNA
 23 pairs of chromosomes in each human cell (total 46 chromosomes)
 Separated into identical sets during mitosis/meiosis

 Responsible for transfer of genetic info to daughter cells
 First 22 pairs of chromosomes (autosomes)
 23 rd pair of chromosomes-contains genetic info for gender
 Females have XX and males have XY
Autosomal chromosomes (autologous-do not carry genetic info r/t gender)
 Carried on first 22 pairs of chromosomes
 Sex linked disease only carried on 23 rd pair of chromosomes
 Autosomal chromosomes are identical to one another and considered homologous
Alleles
 Autosomal chromosomes carries identical genes- alleles - can be dominate/recessive
 Dominant alleles genetic code will always manifest in individual’s phenotype

