The True Story on Fake News Sheldon Burshtein * One of the most newsworthy political and societal issues is news itself — or rather ‘‘fake news”. Accurate news is vital to democracy and the explosive growth of fake news is cited by many as a threat. This article addresses what fake news is, fake news websites, the relevance, dissemination and impact on advertising of fake news, and how fake news is being addressed. The article considers the Canadian law on fake news, with comparison to the laws of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Europe, and reports the true story on fake news. _________________________ Une des questions politiques et socie´tales les plus remarquables est l’actualite´, ou plus pre´cise´ment les «fausses nouvelles».
