Vanessa MejiaTA: Caitlin KofordHistory 4BWeek Two Reading 1.The Truce of GodThe truce of God seems to be an agreement that helped protect the Christians against violence. There were rules set as to when violence was not tolerated at all and there were also punishments for those who broke these rules. Punishments for the nobles and free men included being expelled from the territory. Punishments for the slaves seem much harsher, if they committed homicide they are beheaded. It is very interesting to see how the slaves were treated differently from the free men and noble, this is very common given the time. Exceptions are included for those such as the dukes; they can still inflict punishment legally on criminals without getting any sort of punishment. The punishments helped make this effective but also the fact that there were exceptions and different punishments for different people made this a bit ineffective. The truce seems to have the interest of the Christians in mind.
