CH221 Lab: Using Conductivity to Find an Equivalence Point Abstract In this experiment, we determined the equivalence point of a solution. We used a conductivity probe to find the equivalence point of the solution, sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and barium hydroxide (Ba(OH)2). Conductivity is the amount of electrical current in the material. The equivalence point is the point of a reaction where the moles of an acid and moles of a base compound are equal to each other or are equivalent to each other. Intro The purpose of this experiment is to find the equivalence point of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and barium hydroxide (Ba(OH)2). When sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is added to barium hydroxid(Ba(OH)2), conductivity starts to decrease, meaning the Ba(OH)2 will separate into Ba 2+ an OH -. When adding H2SO4, the solution will neutralize the Ba(OH)2, then increases to higher conductivity after reaching its equivalence point. The balanced chemical equation of the reaction is: Ba 2+ (aq) + 2 OH (aq) 2 H + (aq) + SO4 2- (aq) ----------- > BaSO4 (s) + 2 H2O (l) Data Graph 1 : Shows a data plot of conductivity of the solution per volume of sulfuric acid added.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
