NoSQL, short for Not only SQL, are a variety of recent data storage and retrieval technologies not based on the relational model. They are sometimes referred to as the next generation of database. These databases are modeled by means other than the relationship model. NoSQL is very useful for storing very large amounts of data and allow scaling out using commodity servers rather than purchasing more and more expensive hardware. NoSQL systems can also be easily implemented in a cloud environment. The internet company Shutterfly uses a NoSQL database system known as MongoDB. Shutterfly is a photo sharing and personal publishing company that manages more than 6 million images and has a transaction rate of up to 10,000 operations per second.
