ETHICAL BEHAVIOR OF ROCKY UNIVERSITY STUDENTSEthical Behavior of Rocky University StudentsAfter an alarming survey concerning the widespread cheating of business students surfaced, Rocky University decided to conduct a three-question survey of their own. Rocky University administered the survey to ninety business students from the graduating class in an attempt to determine if cheating at Rocky University is as widespread as the survey claims it is elsewhere. The results of the survey are analyzed in this report. The SurveyThe survey consisted of the following three questions: “During your time at Rocky, did you ever present work copied off the Internet as your own?”, “During your time at Rocky, did you ever copy answers off another student’s exam?”, “During your time at Rocky, did you ever collaborate with other students on projects that were supposed to be completed individually?”. The results of each question were recorded along with the student’s gender. If the student answered yes to any one of the three questions, they are considered to be involved in cheating. The ResultsThe proportion of male students who were involved in present work off the Internet as their own was .48 compared to the proportion of females, which was .57. Ignoring the gender category, the total proportion of students who used work from the Internet as their own was .52. When it came to copying answers from another student’s exam, the proportion of males was .54, proportion of females was .57 and total proportion was .56. The results for the proportion of males, females, and the total sample for students who collaborated on an individually assigned project are .54, .50, and .52 respectively. If the categories are ignored, the proportion of students who were involved in any type of cheating was .90. Some students cheated only in one or two areas; males who are involved in some type of cheating was .90 as is the proportion of females. 2
