1) Who were the Luddites and what were their issues? -Luddites were people who were against technology. They don’t necessarily hate technology but they hate the changes that technology brought up to the world. -Any group of British workers between 1811 and 1816 who rioted and destroyed laborsaving textile machinery in the belief that such machinery would diminish employment -one who opposes technical or technological change -Mainly their issues were that: (changes) Technology creates more negative contributions to our society than positive. Unemployment Lack of compassion of the factory owners; social responsibility Machines were able to produce high quality goods same as human could without skilled labour Leads to workers are easily replaced, because their skills are not preserved anymore Worsening working conditions Greater anxiety and less stress Long hours, less skills, less security, less power, less benefits, less pay Technology alienates workers from the capitalists; people who hold the power of labour -they took action They destroyed machines created by the industrial revolution because: Believed that they need to shape the implementation of new technologies They need to slow down the destruction of older economic relations until people could adjust to the newer ones
