Americans with access to computers and the Internet continues to soar on a yearly basis; the digital divide also continues to grow at an alarming rate. For instance, a study directed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), entitled Falling Through the Net: Defining the Digital Divide. Certain cultures within a society already connected that have high incomes, educated, e.g., Caucasian and Asian Pacific Islander households are adopting newer technologies faster (NTIA, n.d.). However, other groups with regularly low-speed rates for Internet use keep on lagging further behind, thus widening the already strained efficiently economy and racial lines. Moreover, I have learned as a communication practitioner; I must be progressively mindful of achieving my intended audience through digital strategies that will help decrease the digital divide and not add to it.
