Introduction
Individuals come from unique backgrounds, races, and ethnicities within a community,
sharing cultural and societal beliefs. Every individual has an essential role within the community,
which forms our society. Each morning, I wake up at the same time with my husband and
children prepare breakfast, and get ready for our day. As a mother of three, I go to the gym in the
early morning, take my son to preschool, interact with my children, and participate in a variety of
social committees. My role within my family is to make sure that the house is clean, meals are
prepared and cleaned up afterwards, and to take care of the daily essentials for my husband and
children. Each day is a regular monotonous routine, as we are a military family and must adhere
to a schedule. It is significant to identify the sociological perspective when looking at our daily
routine, and being able to identify the social issues, theories and concepts through a sociological
lens. Using a sociological imagination allows one to recognize the elements of social structure
and social interaction in one’s life; as there is a mutual relationship between society and
individual behavioral patterns.
Field Log:
6:30 am: Wake up, shower, wake children up, make breakfast, eat breakfast, interact with family.

7:55: Leave for the gym for Zumba class, significant traffic in the mornings.
Social norm: Following rules of the road
8:05: Arrive at the gym. People are rushing around signing in and getting ready to begin class.

9:15: Finish Zumba class, take a shower and head home.

9:45: Interact with children. Drink a cup of coffee and read books.

11:15: Make lunch for husband and children. Eat lunch.
11:45: Get son ready for preschool, and head to school.

12:00: Arrive at preschool. Drop son off in classroom and head to PTO meeting.

12:15: PTO meeting begins. Listen to current goals and events, and brainstorm new fundraisers.

1:30: PTO meeting ends, get into car and drive home.

2:30: Friend stops by to discuss PTO meeting, let children play, and socialize. I fill her in on the
PTO meeting, and happenings.
