Taylor Bright Professor IEP 22 October 2017IEP #2William Hogarth’s life was not that of an exclusive painter, but of an engraver who then later spiked interest in the fine arts. I believe even though not all his work was famous he tried to convey modern, true to the world paintings. The Orgy for instance is a part of an eight-piece set that shows the life of a once wealthy man go downhill as he spends his money inheritance on alcohol, prostitutes, and other lavish personal items that get stolen from him while he is in a drunken state. The series is painted to make more of a story to understand how and why this man Tom is living in a world of own personal gain and how it was his undoing and eventually theculprit to his arrest. The intent I believe was to show the world that the way Tom was living can and does happen. Almost a foreshadow of a modern age being born. It could also be possible that it is showing more of an acceptance to once taboo thing back then. The paintings Marriage
