Skin can help in diagnosing disease by revealing characteristics in size, shape, color, andlocation of abnormalities as well as the presence or absence of other signs andsymptoms.Skin can heal itself through the presence of stem cells in the dermis and cells in thestratum basale of the epidermis , all of which can generate new tissue. There are fourstages of wound healing : Phase 1. Hemostatsis phase. Phase 2. Defensive/inflammatoryphase. Phase 3. Proliferative phase. Phase 4. Maturation phase.Age plays a role in skin related changes by creating changes in the connective tissue thatreduces the skins strength and elasticity which is known as elastosis. The age it becomes noticeable in skin aging is usually in a person’s 20’s when finewrinkles , light blemishes , and sun spots begin to appear.
