Chapter 8 Controls: Methods, policies, and organizational procedures that ensure safety of organization’s assets; accuracy and reliability of its accounting records; and operational adherence to management standards. Security: Policies, procedures, and technical measures used to prevent unauthorized access, alteration, theft, or physical damage to information systems. Policies: A course of principle of action adopted or proposed by a government, party, business, or individual. Procedures: An established or official way of doing something. Drive-by downloads: Malware that comes with a downloaded file a user intentionally or unintentionally requests. War driving: Technique in which eavesdroppers drive by buildings or park outside to try to intercept wireless network traffic. Worms: Programs that copy themselves from one computer to another over networks. Can destroy data, programs, and halt operation or computer networks. Computer virus: Rogue software programs that attach to other programs in order to be executed, usually without user knowledge or permission. Can spread by email attachments. Enron’s auditors.
