AfAm 228 Midterm Study Guide: Fall 2017 The exam is worth 100 points. It will consist of multiple choice questions, 4 historical ID’s, and 1 short essay question (1-2 paragraphs). What is a historical identification (ID)? Historical IDs test both factual knowledge and an understanding of the significance of people, events, and concepts in the context of their times—unlike essay questions which rely on an ability to interpret historical events, use judgment, and include factual knowledge in appropriate ways to support a thesis and to draw conclusions based on evidence and that thesis. Similar to a primary source analysis, a historical ID requires you to provide the who/what, where, when, and why of a historical figure/event is important. Items to Review: Hip Hop Evolution Parts 1-4 The Art of Organized Noize Chang book: Chapters 4, 12, 14 Rose book: Chapters 10 and 12 Forman and Neal book: Chapters 18, 42, 44 Pinn and Easterling article on Tupac

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
