Dr. Rasmussen and Class, The new concept for the organizations who are allowing nurses to bring your own device (BYOD) to work is not a safe practice. I think this places a huge security issue on patient privacy and HIPPA, and I say this for several reasons. Some organizations are allowing nurses to use their personal mobile device to take photographs of wounds or skin conditions and also to message or email patients about their health or treatment (Mobile Devices in the Workplace, 2014). Although this may allow for quicker access to information for nurses, there are too many risks that make patient health information (PHI) available. In my facility, the nurses use a camera that is specifically designated for photographs of patient’s wounds and then can be uploaded to the patient’s medical record. Mobile devices are vulnerable for loss or theft, they could be small and easily dropped somewhere where a person could access information (Mobile Devices in the Workplace, 2014).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
