A counselor utilizing person-centered therapy has a goal of promoting well-being for their client and gaining a sense of trust (Corey, 2017). The dialogue between a counselor and individual is used to show empathy towards the client and orchestrate lifestyle change. In order for it to be effective, an awareness and respect for the whole person is involved. The following responses to the clients below show a sense of empathy towards the client. Trust is being built by allowing the client to express their feelings of anxiety, anger, loss, helplessness, and fear. As the counselor, you listen to them and ensure that they are being understood and accepted (Corey, 2017). Client comment 1: "I have no idea what to do, and I hope you can tell me." Counselor comment 1: Let’s start by exploring some options together. I would love to hear some ideas from you because they are important. We all come to this point in life and just need to do a little brainstorming.
