A lot of gangs are transnational. Gangs can evolve and change “Stereotyping” The old fray concerning Secretary of State John Kerry’s remarks about not being smart and being sent to Iraq Stereotyped all military members as not being intelligent “Stereotyping: We do it to other People” Do we stereotype street gangs? Gang activity? How and if gangs migrate? What fuels migration if it occurs? Do we stereotype immigrants, groups of people, the police? “Transnational Gangs” A group of three or more Common identifier, sign or symbol Association Involved in criminal activity between countries Criminal activity does not have to be felony conduct, nor is turf a requirement, or school status Globalization: increased mobility of goods, services, labor, technology and capital throughout the world o Social definition: a process that extending the gang behaviors and goods world wide o Investors Words: “the name for a process of increasing connectivity and interdependence of the world’s markets and business” So how and why do economic terms apply to the American gang culture? o Globalization is a term that really describes a process o To fully understand the impact of this process, you also have to consider the use of technology “Globalization Breeds Violence” Although demographic trends helped pack the bomb of violence, heightened global integration lit the fuse. Despite its undeniable benefits – particularly in the macroeconomic arena – globalization has aggravated income inequalities throughout the world, spread a culture of violence through increased communications and media, and expanded trade in “death industries”
such as firearms and drugs. All these developments either cause or reinforce upward trends in global violence.
