1. Who is Piaget and what are his thoughts on the way humans develop? Jean Piaget was a Swiss psychologist and epistemologist known for his pioneering work in child development. Piaget's theory of cognitive development and epistemological view are together called "genetic epistemology" 2. List each of Piaget's stages of development and provide a summary of each stage. Sensorimotor. Birth through ages 18-24 months The infant builds an understanding of himself or herself and reality and how things work through interactions with the environment. It is able to differentiate between itself and other objects. Preoperational. Toddlerhood (18-24 months) through early childhood (age 7) The child is not yet able to conceptualize abstractly and needs concrete physical situations.
