Otero Javier Otero Simon Brandon-Lai SPM4154 12 April 2016 Treatment of Labor Force – Qatar World Cup As one of the most prosperous countries in the world, Qatar won the bidding to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Lacking in domestic construction labor, Qatar is forced to seek assistance from an external labor force – many of these workers coming from India, Pakistan, and surrounding countries. With the world cup commencing in the next four years, Qatar has had to step up its production of venues throughout the country. With such an influx of migrant workers, Qatar has been unable to accommodate basic commodities for living arrangements. Many of these workers are overworked, and have to return to poor living conditions. This has raised the moral question worldwide if countries like Qatar are fit to host a world cup. Key stakeholder groups are affected by the labor debacle in Qatar. The labor force and the country of Qatar will be represented as the internal stakeholder group, whereas the FIFA commission, fans, and players and coaches will be represented as the external group. Permitting Qatar to host the 2022 world cup will allow them to promote their country to world – this will bring copious amounts of tourism to the country, which in turn, will benefit the economic growth of Qatar.
