An American There are many types of Americans that inhabit The United States today. There are Native-Americans, African-Americans, Asian- Americans, and many other kinds. The definition of an American can be thought of many different ways, but it all comes down to a few simple characteristics. An American is a person who was either born on United States soil or followed the steps to become a naturalized citizen, follows the laws of the United States, and proclaims and utilizes their rights in America. To be an American does not only pertain to those who were born here as natural citizens, but also to those who took it upon themselves to become citizens.
