Brenna Mendonca PSY 18 Quiz 3 (Adolescence) 1. Why is experiencing puberty “off time” especially difficult? Because when the average kid is changing, the ones who are off time grow and change and look differently. Usually kids will get taller and gain weight. With young girls, if they experience puberty early, we usually see them kind of older than they really are, whi ch can be a bad experience for them because they don’t go through the normal childhood experiences the same way. 2. Why is body image particularly likely to be distorted in adolescence? Adolescents only focus on their imperfections, and compare themselves to the people in the media. They usually think that everyone cares what they look like because they think people are always looking at them. Media always shows images of the "perfect" body that most people can't achieve, which makes them think that there is something wrong with them if they can't get it. 3. Why are sexually active adolescents more likely to contract STIs than sexually active adults?
