Torah- “Law”, 1 st 5 books of Hebrew Bible, Instruction from God. c. Pentateuch- based on Greek, “5 scrolls”, used interchangeably with Torah II. Literary Sketch (Major Events in Torah) a. Primeval history: 4 Great Events (Gen. 1-11) i. The Creation- God creates the world, nature, humanity. ii. The Fall- Adam & Eve violate God’s instruction and exiled from garden of Eden. iii. The Flood- God decides to destroy humans because of their sin. Only Noah and his own spared. iv. The Tower of Babel- People decide to build tower to reach God. God stops them and confuses their language. Etiological story to explain the multiplicity of languages today. b. Patriarchal History: 4 Great Ancestors (Gen. 12-50) “Fathers of Israel” i.
