Nicholas Vrabel Phy115 Lab 1 December 2017 Lab 1 Introduction: I believe the purpose of this lab is to show that although you believe you are measuring accurately there are a number of factors that go into measuring. Accuracy and preciseness are both important. 1. Types and sources of errors a. Limitation of measuring i. You need to have a precise measuring device b. Instrument calibration i. Calibrate your device c. Reading error i. Assure measuring device is steady d. Uncontrolled environmental factors i. I don’t believe environmental factors make a difference in this example e. Inherent limitations i. Terrain could cause limitations f. Human error i. Take time to read measurements precisely and double check your readings 2. I believe sensor 2 is more accurate but there are other factors that need to be considered; humidity and atmospheric pressure for example. I would say that sensor 1 is more precise because the reading are closer to eachother. 3. a. Mean = (9.3+9.5+8.6+9.0+8.9+9.2+9.5)/6 = 9 b. Standard deviation = .365 i. Standard deviation = √(9.3-9)^2 +(9.5-9)^2 +(8.6-9)^2+(9.0-9)^2+(8.9-

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
