Surname 1 Name Tutor Course Date Crucible Essay over John Proctor Great Dilemma Change throughout the Play The play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller sets John Proctor as the protagonist of the play, a man who encounters some dilemmas, each being as a result of the previous one. The play revolves around the life of John Proctor laying bare some of the challenges that he faces and his solutions. The greatest dilemma at the beginning is adultery, a weakness that he attempts to redress. These smoothly changes to allegations of witchcraft and finally he faces a conscience crisis, whereby his biggest dilemma concerns his personal identity or sense of individuality. In the beginning, Proctor, who is the hero of the play, does his best in hiding his secret affair with Abigail from the public to protect his name. As the play progresses, he finds out that it is necessary for him to admit his affair to stop the ridiculous rumors spread by the girls. Proctor is fully aware that Abigail wants to win his love over Elizabeth, the lawful wife by putting forward this accusations. Proctor unsuccessfully attempts to silence Abigail, who intends to replace Elizabeth as proctor’s wife. Proctor considers public right in place of his personal rights
