1 Homework Assignment #3 (Chapters 5 and 6) STAT 1350, Autumn 2017 1.A manufacturer of table saw blades is interested in determining whether a narrower blade will cause less burning of wood when cutting very hard woods, such as maple. To answer this question, engineers obtain 20 similar one-inch-thick hard maple boards. Half (or 10) of the boards are sawed using the new, narrow-style blade, and the other half (or 10) of the boards are sawed using the standard-width blade. All cuts are done at the same feed rate (the rate at which the board is pushed against the blade to make the cut). The engineers then measure the amount of burning (rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst) on each board. The individuals in this study are: A.the maple boards B.the different types of blade (narrow and standard widths) C.the amount of burning measured D.the feed rate 2.A medical experiment is performed in order to compare aspirin with a placebo for preventing heart attacks. If this experiment is double-blind, it means that A.subjects choose which treatment they get, but do not tell the doctors. B.neither the subject nor the doctors know which treatment the patient received. C.the doctors choose which treatment to give each subject, but do not tell the subjects. D.subjects are not told either their treatment or their medical condition. E.all individual data are kept confidential.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
