Greetings Professor, The NP’s role mimicking essentially the medical model for care with the provision of initial assessment, discussing the primary problems/concerns, establishing a diagnosis and formulating appropriate testing, developing a management plan, and prescription of medications this theory provides the holistic aspect that illuminates the nursing profession form the medical model (Lowe, Plummer, O’Brien & Boyd, 2012). The Goal Attainment Theory helps define the NP role in practice. The NP role has caused a blurring of professional boundaries. The development of the ANP and the specific roles have created challenges for the nursing profession in terms of defining what it is that nursing is and does (Lowe, Plummer, O’Brien & Boyd, 2012). I think this is great since Kings Theory provides the framework for the NP to practice both the nursing and medical craft in sync. Respectfully, Lawrence Lowe, G., Plummer, V., O’ Brien, A.P. & Boyd, L., (2012) Time to clarify – the value of advanced practice nursing roles in health care.
