Activity Definitions o Active exercise the patient performs ROM independently. o Passive exercise the patient requires the help of the nurse to perform ROM. o Atrophy Tissue loss and shrinkage due to non-using. o Sims position Patient laying on their side o Abd uction Moving the arms away from the body o Add uction Moving the arms close to the body o Contractures shortening and hardening of muscles, tendons, or other tissue, often leading to deformity and rigidity of joints . o Plantar flexion movement of the foot in which the foot or toes flex downward toward the sole o Trendelenburg position When the body is laid supine, or flat on the back with the feet higher than the head by 15-30 degrees. o ADL’s Activities of daily living o ROM Range of motion o Prone Position Patient laying on their stomach o Dangling assisting patient into the sitting position with their legs hanging over the side of the bed, before moving them into the standing position.
