Explain the possible effect of participant expectation on the findings of this study 1. This tends to be more signficiant in qualitative studies such as this one. This can be explained because of the informal interaction between the researchers and the befrinders will possibly cause the befriender to try to practice that responses required or wanted by the researcher. Additionally, “screw you effect” that is when the paritpcant purposefully gives answers to sabotage the experiment. Although this could happen, this is unlikely due to the positive answers given by the befrienders about the befrindees. 2. Looking at the results, it is most probable that the befrienders were subject to social desirability effect that is that they gave positive answers about the experience with the beffrinedees to avoid being looked down upon in a bad light.
