A Geary 1 Alex Geary Modern World History Block 5 Mrs. Dearborn Due March 27, 2017 The Atomic Bomb: Hero and Villain The atomic bomb killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese people. We committed an atrocity against the Japanese people, we can’t deny that. We also can’t ignore the fact that many US and allied soldiers would’ve died if we hadn’t dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was morally correct. If we hadn’t dropped the atomic bomb, more American lives would’ve been taken. According to Paul Fussel, “the invasion was going to take place: there’s no question about that. It was not theoretical or merely rumored in order to scare the Japanese By July 10, 1945, the prelanding naval and aerial bombardment of the coast had begun, and the battleships Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and King George V were steaming up and down the coast, softening it up with their sixteen-inch shells”.
