Glossary FND 112: Figure Drawing Module 1 academic proportion Figure divided into 7.5 head units. head unit Using the head as a guide to measure the body. horizontal axis Side-to-side direction of a body part. ideal proportions Figure divided into eight head units. midline The line through the center of the body. negative space The space between and around the parts of the body. plumb line Vertical line that checks the position of the top and bottom of the figure. positive space The shapes of objects in the picture. proportion The size and shape of one body part compared to another part. sight measuring Using one part of the object as a unit to measure all other parts. tilt Angle of a body part or angle between body parts. vertical axis Up and down direction of a body part. Module 2 bone landmark Part of a bone that is easy to see so is used for gesture and proportion.
clavicle Shoulder bone. contrapposto A pose where the shoulder and hip axis are at different angles. gesture A method seeing and drawing the movement and balance of the figure. hip axis The angle of the hips. iliac crest Hip bone. line of action A simple curve that moves through the body and shows the gesture. line of balance A vertical line that describes where the weight is in the pose. pose The position of the model. shoulder axis The angle of the shoulders that describes the position of the rib cage.
