I highly recommend you add them to your notes when reviewing as those are most likely the questions that will be asked of on the exam Intellectualism and political action o Looking at exchanges between intellectuals and leading political figures o Athens’ wealth drew outsiders in One of these groups are sophists- wise men Served as tutors for elite Athenians Tutored for oral speaking in assembly Sophists were very interested in politics of the time Interested in political philosophy and application of law codes in society o Political philosophy (similar to Confucius in china) in Athens was considered a solution to problems of the era Specifically issues with Spartans and Persians The Intellectual response to Athens’ failure o Spartans were more than happy to bring in Persians as long as the Persians helped with multicultural societies
