Lab 7 Report
Purpose:
The objective in this lab is to understand and classify different gears and see how they
function through multiple simple experiments.
Procedure:
Exercise 1:
A)
Identify the listed gears in the provided table and record their specific
nomenclatures.
B) Find the gear ratios for the given gears then solve for the HP ratings and maximum torque
transmitted.
Exercise 2:
For the given application calculate overload service factor, required HP, speed ratio,
then select the pitch, HP, and gear type for the driver and driven gear.
Results:
All results are within the lab report.
Conclusions/Recommendations:
Gears are a very helpful piece of equipment, but it takes the
correct and specific gear to make a true advantage for the machine. That is why there is a
ridiculous amount of specifications and nomenclatures for gears.
Real World Applications:
Vehicles, conveyors, and CNC machines.
