Vitamins are organic compounds very essential in traces for the purpose of the normal physiological functions of the body. The body needs the vitamins for it cannot be able to quickly synthesize them. Thus they should always be provided in our deities. There are three characteristics of vitamins; they are natural components of food which are more often present in traces, they are essential for the normal physiological body function for instance reproduction and growth. These vitamins are crucial for their deficiency in the body have consequences. Vitamins are put into the category of either, the fat soluble vitamins or the water soluble vitamins based on whether they dissolve in the lipids or in water. The vitamins are very important to the body as they serve the following roles- they serve as cofactors for the enzymes and they are referred to as coenzymes. Minerals are also essential and they have a variety of micronutrients which are essential for the normal functioning of the body. Deficiency of vitamins in the body cause abnormal functioning of the body. For instance vitamin B1 (Thiamine) deficiency in the body is associated with the following symptoms; burning feet, rapid heart rate, swelling, anorexia , nausea, fatigue and gastrointestinal problems.
