America's tolerance of sexuality has definitely evolved over the past years. In fact, society's views on sexual tolerance along with society’s views on what is acceptable behavior is constantlychanging. One major change that has affected society’s views on the acceptance of sexual and gender choices was the legalization of same sex marriages. The ability for same sex couples to beable to legally get married has become a controversial topic, especially amongst people who are religious. As a result, same sex couples face a lot of challenges in their daily lives. Due to these challenges and beliefs of what is right or wrong, individuals who do not fit into what society views as right are unable to freely express themselves and explore their sexuality. With that beingsaid, changes such as the legality of same sex marriages have been crucial to society’s views on what is sexually acceptable. Although there are some who support same sex marriages resulting in changes being made, some same sex couples still face issues such as not being able to adopt. With the Supreme Courts decision to legalize same sex marriages came an uproar. Many felt that this decision was morally wrong. In fact, some people especially those who were religious felt that this law went against the institution of marriage. Marriage was perceived as a union only between a man and a woman.
