Evaporation and Intermolecular Forces 12 12 Introduction The purpose of this report is describe the experiment that was performed and what the results mean relating to intermolecular forces and how that affects heat of vaporization. The objective of the experiment was to understand how heats of vaporization vary with the strength of the intermolecular present in various solvents and to relate enthalpy of vaporization to intermolecular forces . Materials and Methods The procedure for this experiment was taken from Lab Manual: Experiment 12- Vaporization and Intermolecular Forces. No deviations were made from the given procedure. Results and Discussion The data in this experiment was obtained by recording the lowering of temperature in each substance tested over time. The recording was stopped when the temperature stopped lowering and started to go up again. The first graph shows the change in temperature over time of three alkanes: Heptane, Nonane, and Octane; while the second graph showed the same information about three
