Katie and Dondi, Margaret Edson created in Vivian an intellectual Professor that seems to be ignorant of her students' emotional needs and is also unable to see them as individuals. Similarly, her doctors can only see Vivian as an experiment for finding a cure for the cancer that is killing her. Her obsessive devotion to the study of literature left her without family or friends. And, as a result, this also made her an ideal candidate for experimental chemotherapy, because there is no one to object to this tough and painful treatment. I found it interesting that Vivian's former student, Posner, represents the embodiment of the empty rationality which Vivian so highly prized. In fact, he credits her with sharpening his intellectual prowess, enabling him to think in purely rational terms about his cancer research. However, it also caused him to view Vivian purely as a body without individual characteristics.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
